What is a machine refit?
A refit retains the mechanical frame and tooling of an existing machine and replaces the controls, HMI and, where necessary, the electrical infrastructure. The result is functionally equivalent to a new installation, at approximately 20% of the new-machine price.
GCG carries out refits for machines from all major machine builders and for installations outside the original OEM service network. We work with Siemens, B&R, Allen-Bradley and other platforms. All refits include a FAT at our facility in Volendam and a SAT on site.
Why refit now?
Machines moving from West to East
Production capacity is shifting from the Netherlands and Germany to Poland, Czech Republic and Romania. Machines being replaced in Western Europe are available to Eastern European clients, even if the original OEM has ceased to exist.
Six major OEM clusters have disappeared
Battenfeld, Demag Ergotech, Ferromatik Milacron, Husky E-Line, Lavatec and Jensen no longer exist as independent brands. GCG still supports their machines, independent of the original manufacturer.
Machinery Directive becomes Machinery Regulation on 20 Jan 2027
Machines that are substantially modified, including control replacement, may require re-CE marking. GCG guides the CE process as part of the refit. More: /machinery-regulation-2027/refit-ce-marking-when-required/.
NIS2 imposes requirements on OT security
Industrial controls on production lines covered by NIS2 must demonstrate compliance. A refit provides the opportunity to address network segmentation, access logging and firmware policy structurally.
Refit by sector
Supported machine builders: top 10
GCG has experience with the control systems of all major machine builders. Select your machine for a specific overview.
Our three-step approach
Technical scan
Inventory of existing controls, electrical schematics and PLC software. Determination of refit scope, target platform and CE assessment requirement. Lead time: 5–10 working days.
Engineering & FAT
Design of the new control cabinet, PLC programming and HMI configuration. Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) on our test rig in Volendam before shipment.
Commissioning & SAT
Assembly, cabling and commissioning on site. Site Acceptance Test (SAT) with the client. 30-day hyper-care period after handover.
What we do not do
- ·We do not carry out a refit without a signed functional specification.
- ·We do not hand over a refit without a completed SAT.
- ·We do not build control cabinets based on verbal agreements.
Completed refit projects
Concrete results from refit projects in Dutch and Eastern European manufacturing. From injection moulders to packaging lines.
