PLC-5 → ControlLogix: key steps

01

Code conversion

Export RSLogix 5 ladder logic and convert via Studio 5000 Migration Assistant. Manual review and adaptation of MSG instructions, DH+ blocks and custom routines.

02

Hardware replacement

Replace PLC-5 chassis and cards with ControlLogix L8x controller + EtherNet/IP I/O modules. Optional: ControlNet bridge as interim solution for existing Remote I/O.

03

Communication upgrade

Replace DH+ network with EtherNet/IP. New cabling, switches and network segmentation. HMI upgrade to PanelView Plus 7 or FactoryTalk View ME.

04

FAT + SAT

Factory Acceptance Test on simulated I/O, followed by Site Acceptance Test on site. Cutover during scheduled maintenance.
